Dr. Amanda Hall is a first-generation college graduate and proud Appalachian from the coal fields of Eastern KY. She holds a PhD in Education-Curriculum, Culture, and Change from Virginia Commonwealth University and for the past 20 years, Amanda has served as a community engagement champion - environmental scientist and outdoor educator, k-20 teacher and service leader, educational developer, non-profit leader, community-engaged researcher and practitioner, mentor, and advocate. Her interconnected career paths (and unique lived experiences) are rooted at the intersection of critical community engagement and justice-centered education, with a special emphasis on empowering youth voice and underrepresented communities. As the founder of Empower Action, Dr. Hall is a critical practitioner, facilitator, and educator – an advocate, artivist, and innovator utilizing participatory photovoice approaches with community to collaboratively change the narrative and disrupt the community engagement status quo for greater social impact.
